Champions League. 3rd qualifying round. Dynamo – Sturm – 1:0. Report

Having outplayed Fenerbahce SK on aggregate, FC Dynamo Kyiv reached the UEFA Champions league third qualifying round.

At this stage the White-Blues face the Austrian league runners-up SK Sturm Graz. The first leg took place on August 3 at the Stadion Miejski im. Wladyslawa Krola in Lodz. Dynamo succeeded – 1:0.

Unfortunately, Tsyhankov got injured at the pre-match warm-up, so Karavayev took his place in the starting lineup.

For the first 15 minutes the ball was mostly in the midfield. Both sides defended orderly. Long-range shots from Austrian side weren’t too dangerous. Prass created the first good opportunity, but Bushchan did a good job.

Later Heorhiy had to demonstrate his skills again as he coped with the strike by Hojlund from inside the box. Later Hojlund had another opportunity after low cross from the left side, but missed the target.

Gradually Dynamo got more determined which turned into a goal. Dubinchak crossed from the left wing, Besedin didn’t reach the ball, but Karavayev was there to send it into the bottom corner.

In the second half there was a lot of scrimmage on the field. Besedin could increase the lead, but at first he didn’t use the pass from Shepelev and then opponent blocked his shot from inside the penalty area.

Sturm created danger mostly after set pieces, but our keeper played confidently. Shaparenko attempted from distance, Besedin tried with a header, but both missed. So did Buialskyi and Karavayev.

So, despite all Dynamo efforts the score didn’t change anymore. It’s 1:0 for Kyiv side.

The second leg will take place on August 9 in Graz.
