Denys Popov: «Unfortunately we slipped up again»

Dynamo Kyiv defender Denys Popov, who returned to the field after injury in the match against Zorya Luhansk (1:1), shared his impressions after the game:

- In your opinion why can’t Dynamo manage to win again? What’s happening with the team? What’s wrong?

- It’s hard to say exactly what’s happening – I can’t point to just one reason. But I think it’s no longer a coincidence; it’s become a pattern, unfortunately, a negative one. This draw feels like a defeat. Again it’s difficult to pinpoint the cause. I’ve just returned, trained for about a week and played this match. I believe the goal we conceded is on me. I made a mistake when they scored – I failed to hold off their striker. But Budkivskyi is a good experienced forward, and it was tough to contain him.

- It’s not the first time Dynamo has conceded in the final minutes – it keeps happening in matches where points are dropped. Did you prepare specifically to stay focused and increase intensity toward the end?

- No, we didn’t put special emphasis on that before the match. We prepared as usual – aiming to win. But those last minutes… I don’t know, it’s as if we’ve been jinxed. Five matches in a row without a win – I don’t remember that ever happening.

- Do you think about the league table right now? What’s next?

- It’s all clear as it is. Honestly I don’t know what’s going to happen next. To be frank it’s even scary to look at the table now. If I knew the exact reason why this is happening I’d tell you – but right now it’s very hard to explain.

- You’ve already been in the locker room - what was the atmosphere like?

- Silence. Complete silence. What is there to say? You don’t throw punches after the fight. We slipped up again, fell flat on our faces once more. You can only prove something on the pitch but we’re failing to do that.

- Dynamo’s next league match is against Kryvbas who have temporarily taken first place. Will it be just as difficult?

- Right now it’s difficult against every team. I don’t know how it’ll go – we’ll see.

- What do you expect from the next Conference League match against Turkish side Samsunspor?

- It’s hard to say what to expect. We need to figure things out – what we’re lacking or maybe what we have too much of. The scoreline speaks for itself. What can I say? You can see everything yourselves.
