On Tuesday, July 23, FC Dynamo Kyiv played the 2024/2025 Champions League 2nd qualifying round first leg. The White-Blues hosted FK Partizan Belgrade in Lublin.
This was the first game of the season for Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men. Kyivans succeeded 6:2 though were the first to concede.
Our team created the first scoring chance. Shaparenko found Kabayev, who aimed at the near corner, goalkeeper parried, the ball reached Yarmolenko, who attempted with a bicycle kick, but missed.
Dynamo maintained possession. Yarmolenko created an opportunity for Vanat, but Vladyslav didn’t manage to shoot. Jovanovic saved the shot by Buialskyi. Meanwhile Partizan used their chance. Karavayev fouled against Kalulu inside the box and referee awarded penalty. Saldanha converted from the spot – 0:1.
Kyiv side kept attacking. One should mention the shot by Brazhko from distance and the attempt by Kabayev parried by Jovanovic.
Eventually shortly before the break Dynamo started using their chances and scored three within five minutes. Kabayev rushed down the left side, passed to Shaparenko, who equalized with a powerful strike – 1:1. Then Brazhko unleashed his shot from distance, the ball touched the post and crossed the goal line – 2:1. Afterwards Vanat found Karavayev inside the box and Oleksandr sent the ball into the far corner – 3:1.
The White-Blues continued pressing after the break. Shaparenko missed while Kabayev got the ball in the midfield, rushed down the center and hit the target – 4:1.
Although our players were doing a really good job, they conceded absolutely unnecessarily. After cross into the six-yard-box, Saldanha pulled one more back – 4:2.
Sill Ukrainians had the final word. Brazhko took a free kick, Jovanovic parried, Voloshyn won the ball, found Popov and Denys netted it – 5:2. Then, in a stoppage time, Pikhalionok finished fabulous combination with the participation of Vanat and Voloshyn.
So, it’s 6:2 for Dynamo. The second leg will take place on July 31 in Belgrade.
