Champions League. Group stage. Matchday 5. Dynamo – Bayern. Preview

On November 23, FC Dynamo Kyiv will play the 2021/2022 Champions League group stage matchday 5 game. The White-Blues will host FC Bayern Munich. Kick-off – 19:45.

TEAMS’ PATH

- As far as Dynamo have won the 2020/2021 Ukrainian Premier League, they started the Champions League campaign with group stage. Kyivans’ first match on European arena was against Benfica (0:0). Then the White-Blues lost against Bayern away (0:5) and suffered two 0:1 defeats against Barcelona.

Kyivans are fourth in the group table with one point, but still have chances to continue euro cups campaign. To count on qualification for the Champions League round of 16, Dynamo must beat Bayern and hope that Benfica would win against Barcelona.

- Bayern won the domestic league last season too and qualified for the group stage. Upon that they flattened Barcelona (3:0), Dynamo (5:0) and Benfica twice (4:0 and 5:2).

Julian Nagelsmann’s men have already qualified for the round of 16 having 12 points after 4 matchdays. A draw against Dynamo will be enough for them to win the group.

LINEUP ISSUES

Dynamo

The good news is return of Vitaliy Mykolenko, who’s recovered from injury. He played the whole game against FC Chornomorets Odesa. Vladyslav Kulach, who had been having health issues since August, also took the field in that match. Meanwhile Artem Besedin and Denys Popov aren’t back yet.

Bayern

Munich side won’t be able to bring their best lineup to Kyiv for a number of reasons. Niklas Süle and Josip Stanisic are out due to COVID-19. Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Michael Cuisance are quarantined. It’s questionable whether Marcel Sabitzer and Kingsley Coman will be able to take the field. Dayot Upamecano is suspended.

DOMESTIC LEAGUES START

Dynamo

Dynamo are the Ukrainian Premier League leaders after 15 matchdays having 38 points (12 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat). Besides, the White-Blues have qualified for the Ukrainian Cup quarterfinal.

Bayern

Bayern are the Bundesliga leaders after 12 matchdays (9 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats) with Borussia Dortmund lacking one point behind. Last month they tumbled out of the national cup having suffered away defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach (0:5).
