Europa League, matchday 1. Fenerbahce – Dynamo. Preview

On Thursday, September 8, FC Dynamo Kyiv will face Fenerbahce SK at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in the Europa League group stage matchday 1 game (kick-off – 19:45).

 

2021/2022 SEASON

- The Ukrainian Premier League season was ceased because of war. Dynamo finished second, two points behind FC Shakhtar Donetsk (W-14, D-3, L-1, goal difference – 47:9).

In the Ukrainian Cup round of 16 Dynamo defeated FC Mariupol and were supposed to face FC Oleksandria in the quarterfinal, but the national Cup wasn’t finished either.

- Fenerbahce became the Turkish league runners-up with Trabzonspor eight points ahead (W-21, D-10, L-7, goal difference – 73:38). The leading striker of the team was Serdan Dursun with 15 goals to his name.

As for the Turkish Cup, Fenerbahce tumbled out in the round of 16 by losing against Kayserispor (0:1).

2022/2023 SEASON START

Dynamo started the new season with the Champions League qualifiers. They outplayed Fenerbahce in the second round (0:0, 2:1) and Sturm in the third (1:0, 2:1) after which lost against Benfica in play-offs (0:2, 3:0).

In the Ukrainian Premier League, Mircea Lucescu’s men have suffered two defeats in two games – against Dnipro (0:3) and Zoria (2:3).

Upon losing against Dynamo, Fenerbahce continued their campaign in the Europa League qualification. They reached the group stage by outplaying Slovacko (3:0, 1:1) and Austria Wien (2:0, 4:1).

As for domestic league, Fenerbahce are third in the table after five matchdays having 10 points (W-3, D-1, L-1).
