Maksym Korobov: «When I hit the post my heart skipped a beat»

Defender Maksym Korobov shared his emotions after the 1:0 win over FC Rukh Lviv which marked his official debut for the first team of FC Dynamo Kyiv.

– Maksym, first of all, congratulations on the win and your debut. What are you feeling inside?

– Feelings are incredible. I’m very happy to have made my debut in an official match for the first team. I could have scored as well… But we got a positive result so I’m very pleased. Overall there’s not much more I can say about my emotions.

– You nearly scored when the ball hit the post. What went through your mind?

– I thought: «Was I really just that unlucky? Did I hit it just slightly wrong?» For a second my heart, you know, really started pounding. But then I told myself it’s nothing bad – maybe there will be another chance. I just need to keep playing, keep working, and maybe I’ll score next time.

– When the team scored in the second half did you finally feel relieved? Or did you still have to stay fully focused since there was time left?

– We had to keep going. A 1:0 scoreline is very tricky. A ricochet or something else, and the ball could end up in our net. That actually increases your focus – you have to work even harder defensively to keep a clean sheet. So it made us even more concentrated.

– Who did you share your emotions with when you found out you would start?

– Only with my mom. I told my friends there was a possibility I might play so they should watch and follow the game. But I only told my mom for sure that I would be in the starting lineup.

– Was she watching and worrying?

– Of course she was watching. I think when I hit the post the whole Vinnytsia probably heard it – 100 percent.

– Up next is a match against Epitsentr. How would you assess your form at the start of the second half of the season?

– I can say for sure that physically I’m 100% ready. And overall I’d say I’m fully prepared for the continuation of the season.
