Nicolas Otamendi: “Dynamo are champions of Ukraine and we must respect them”

SL Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi answered journalists’ questions at the press conference before the Champions League group stage matchday 1 game against FC Dynamo Kyiv.

- It will be a tough first match in the group. We want to do a good job and win. We aim to be as effective as possible. Dynamo perform in the Champions League, they’re champions of Ukraine, so we must respect them. Still we need to play our football.

I always do my best to benefit the team and make my contribution. I try to make things easier for those, who don’t have a lot of experience. Sometimes we can concede or lose, so we must focus on all players, not only on the starting eleven.

- Argentineans Salvio and Cervi scored against Dynamo in 2016. Is this a good sign for you?

- (Laughing) I hope it is… What matters is victory. And then we’ll congratulate those who score.

Wins give confidence, make you calmer. We want to make headway and work on our mistakes as there’re no perfect matches. Practice and victories help you throughout the long season.
