UPL, matchday 5. Dynamo – LNZ. Preview

On Sunday, September 1, FC Dynamo Kyiv will play the Ukrainian Premier League matchday 5 game.

The White-Blues will host FC LNZ Cherkasy. Kick-off – 15:30.

DYNAMO

Season start

Dynamo were getting ready for the season in Austria where they played five friendlies – beat Brondby (4:0) and Mamelodi Sundowns (1:0), drew against Paderborn 07 (0:0) and Schalke 04 (2:2) and lost against Union Berlin (2:3).

Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men postponed the UPL matchday 1 games against Oleksandria and then grabbed two tough away wins – against Veres (2:1) and Karpaty (3:1).

As for the Champions League qualification, Kyivans stopped a step from the group stage. After outplaying two opponents (Partizan – 6:2 and 3:0, Rangers – 1:1 and 2:0), Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men lost against RB Salzburg on aggregate

(0:2 and 1:1). Thus this season they’ll perform in the Europa League.

Pre-season lineup changes

This summer only two players who were close to the first team left Dynamo – center back Oleksandr Syrota, who joined Maccabi Haifa, and winger Benito, who was loaned out to Zoria. The rest who left the club weren’t with Dynamo last season – winger Kaheem Parris, right back Mykyta Kravchenko, attacking midfielder Mikkel Duelund, winger Gerson Rodrigues, attacking midfielder Serhii Buletsa, winger Heorhii Tsytaishvili, forward Eric Ramirez, midfielder Oleksandr Yatsyk and forward Ihor Horbach.

Meanwhile Dynamo signed halfbacks Oleksandr Pikhalionok and Valentyn Rubchynskyi, left back/winger Maksym Braharu, center back Brayan Ceballos (loan move), promising Georgian midfielder Aleksandre Peikrishvili, returned from loan move halfbacks Justin Lonwijk and Mykola Mykhailenko.

LNZ were getting ready for the season in Ukraine. Throughout the training camp they played a number of friendlies – beat Obolon (2:0), Livyi Bereh (2:1), Oleksandria (2:1) and Kolos (2:1), drew against Inhulets (0:0), lost against Poltava (0:1), Polissia (0:1) and Obolon (0:2).

The start of the 2024/2025 UPL was quite a success for Cherkasy side. In the first game they succeeded against Livyi Bereh (1:0). After that they lost against Oleksandria (0:2), but afterwards beat Rukh (3:1) and Karpaty (2:1).

This summer midfielder Serhii Rybalka, forwards Oleksii Khoblenko and Maksym Priadun left the club.

Instead LNZ signed defender Illia Putria, forward Mark Assinor, halfback Matej Angelov, defender Ajdi Dajko, forward Francis Momoh, halfback Dmytro Topalov, midfielder Artur Avahimyan, forward Osama Khalaila and halfback Shota
