Dynamo records: most decorated coaches

In this edition of the series about club records and record-holders we highlight the most successful coaches in Dynamo Kyiv’s history.

Valeriy Lobanovskyi – 28 trophies

It is obvious that the most decorated head coach in Dynamo’s history is Valeriy Lobanovskyi. His dominance is so overwhelming that no one can even theoretically match it.

Under his leadership Dynamo won a record number of trophies in every competition they participated in — Soviet championships, Ukrainian championships, USSR Cups, Ukrainian Cups and European competitions (the Ukrainian Super Cup was introduced after his passing).

Lobanovskyi as a coach was a global phenomenon. He was included in the top 10 greatest coaches in football history by World Football, France Football and ESPN (only five coaches in the world have appeared in all three lists).

His most successful competition was the Soviet Top League where he won a record 8 titles. He also won every Ukrainian league season he completed. Dynamo’s dominance ended in 2002 when Lobanovskyi passed away after a match in Zaporizhzhia.
