Ihor Surkis: “I can only say words of gratitude to Oleksandr Andriyevskyi”

FC Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis has commented upon the situation concerning Oleksandr Andriyevskyi leaving the team.

- First of all, I want to say that everything that was said about Oleksandr Andriyevskyi allegedly defrauding Dynamo is not true.

Andriyevskyi called me and admitted that before the end of the first part of the season Dynamo gaffer said he doesn’t count on him. So he called me, as a friend, to ask how I envision the continuation of his career.

- What kind of advice did you give him?

- I told him that if the head coach doesn’t count on him, he can totally play somewhere else, since he’s of competitive football age. I also knew that there were offers for him from Poland, and I said that I was ready to let him go for free.

- Apparently, the offer from Poland was not a part of the player’s plans?

- Oleksandr said he was aware of this option, but due to family circumstances he couldn’t accept it. He also asked if he could obtain free agent status from a purely sporting point of view – that is, to terminate the contract and have no claims against each other, although he still had six months left on his contract.

I told him he’d done so much for the team, so I gave the order to the general director to release him as a free agent. We didn’t even talk about where exactly he should continue his career – whether in LNZ or in Polissia, or in Shakhtar. The only thing he clearly said was that for him it was a priority to stay in Ukraine due to family circumstances.

- So the club and you personally don’t have any claims to Andriyevskyi?

- That’s right. I can only say words of gratitude to him. This is evidenced even by the fact that our press service thanked the player for the years he devoted to Dynamo, long before once good journalist produced this fake.

- Will you somehow react to this situation in the legal field?

- I want to warn everyone: if such insinuations continue, FC Dynamo Kyiv will definitely address to the relevant judicial institutions.
