2024/2025 Ukrainian Cup campaign
Both sides started their Cup campaign with the round of 16. Dynamo outplayed Vorskla 2:1 in extra time while Shakhtar beat Zoria 1:0.
In the quarterfinals both Dynamo and Shakhtar succeeded 1:0. Kyivans won by narrow margin against Rukh while Donetsk side – against Oleksandria.
In the semifinal Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men flattened the First League side Bukovyna 4:1 while Shakhtar grabbed the winner against Polissia in extra time (1:0).
SHAKHTAR
UPL position – 3 (28 matches, 17 wins, 7 draws, 4 defeats, goal difference – 64:24, 58 points).
Current season
After two titles in a row Shakhtar frankly failed this season. For the first time since 1996 they risk finishing lower than the second place in the league table being five points behind Oleksandria with two games remaining. Thus winning the Cup is probably their last chance to save the season.
Besides, if Shakhtar win the Cup they’ll qualify for the Europa League. In case they don’t and finish third in the UPL, they’ll perform in the Conference League.
