Mircea Lucescu passes away. Condolences from Dynamo Kyiv

On April 7, 2026, renowned Romanian coach and former Dynamo Kyiv manager Mircea Lucescu has passed away at the age of 80.

Lucescu led Dynamo Kyiv’s first team from 2020 to 2023, guiding the club to a historic domestic treble in the 2020/2021 season, winning the Ukrainian Premier League, the Ukrainian Cup and the Ukrainian Super Cup.

Condolences on this great loss were expressed by Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis, head coach Ihor Kostiuk and team captain Vitalii Buialskii:

With deep sorrow and heavy hearts we received the news that the legendary coach Mircea Lucescu, whom we all knew very well, has passed away at the age of 80.

His name is forever written in the history of our club. Under his leadership Dynamo achieved bright victories on the domestic stage, including winning the championship as well as the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.

In difficult times his experience, charisma and dedication to football helped restore stability, a champion mentality, belief and confidence within the team.

His immense experience, deep understanding of the game, wisdom and composure left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege to work with him.

We express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. We share their pain. He will always remain in our memory. Mircea Lucescu will live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace”.
