The Ukrainian U21 national team has kicked off their qualifying campaign for Euro 2027 Under 21 which will be held in Albania and Serbia in two years.
Unai Melgosa’s side faced Lithuania, with the match taking place in Druskininkai at the LSK Druskininkai Stadium.
Two Dynamo Kyiv players started the game for Ukraine – striker Matvii Ponomarenko and midfielder Roman Salenko, who is currently on loan at Zorya Luhansk. The forward had several chances in the first half, firing off two inaccurate shots, before being substituted in the 60th minute by Artem Stepanov. The midfielder meanwhile played the full match.
As for the game itself, Unai Melgosa’s side managed to turn their dominance into goals only in the latter stages of the second half. Within eight minutes Danylo Krevsun, Serhiy Korniichuk and Hennadii Synchuk (from the penalty spot) found the net, while Ramik Hadzhiev sealed the final score in stoppage time. The hosts, frustrated by the unfavorable outcome, finished the match with ten men after a red card deep into added time.
