The first press conference of Olexandr Shovkovskyi as FC Dynamo Kyiv head coach.
- Three minutes ago we found out you’re the head coach now. What happened within these few minutes?
- The president of the club came to the locker-room to say a few words. Then I took the floor. Nothing special. I thanked lads for our joint work, wished them a good vacation, strong health to their loved ones and of course victory to our country. I also focused on aspects that helped us win four recent games. That’s about dedication, attitude and motivation.
- How long will Dynamo vacation last? Where will you have a training camp?
- The team will be on vacation for almost a month, but it doesn’t mean players won’t be doing anything. They’ll get individual training programs. We’ll gather on January 12 and have a medical examination. After a week in Kyiv we’ll go to Turkey to have a training camp.
- Will your coaching staff be changed?
- Serhiy Fedorov will join us, who used to work with Dynamo U19.
- Why was the match so tough for Dynamo today?
- I warned the team that games against Obolon are tough for us. This is Kyiv derby. Both sides were very motivated. We were supposed to score in the first half and had chances, but didn’t use those and got a bit nervous. We’ll work on the emotional side of the game. Players need to be more calm and confident, eager to lead. But they also need to understand the game and ways to use our strengths. It’s hard to introduce significant changes within a brief period of time. First of all, I aimed to help players cope with emotional challenges. I’m sure if we used at least one opportunity in the first half, we would have been much calmer.
