Defender of Dynamo Kyiv Taras Mykhavko, who scored one of the six goals against Kryvbas, shared his impressions of the dramatic away game and the 6:5 victory of “White-Blues”:
- Emotions are, of course, positive, but at the same time there’s a bit of an unpleasant aftertaste. In the first half we started very well – we had a 100% scoring chance in the opening minutes but didn’t convert it. Then there was another moment: after a corner we hit the post and immediately after that Kryvbas ran a counterattack and scored. That shook us a bit and knocked us off balance.
Then Matviy equalized to make it 1:1 but after that one of their players basically decided the outcome of the first half by scoring three more goals. If I’m not mistaken it was Mendoza – he kept cutting inside and scoring with almost identical shots. We were shocked by how everything unfolded.
After the break we came out for the second half thinking only about turning the game around, making a comeback and winning. Honestly, after my goal, I felt that we definitely wouldn’t lose this match. And when it became 5:5 I told one of the opposing players that we would win today because I just felt it. And that’s exactly what happened.
We could have scored even more. To be honest I had not never taken part in such a match before – I’ve probably never even seen anything like it.
- What did the coach tell you at halftime that helped turn the game around so much?
- He tried to convince us that we were capable of making a comeback, and that gave us confidence.
- How would you comment on your goal? How well did the ball fall for you?
- There was a very strong wind, and before the cross I roughly understood how the ball would behave in the air – that it would move away from the goal. The wind was blowing in the opposite direction so the ball was curling. I tried to catch it on the rise and struck it well – it all worked out.
