On Saturday, April 22, FC Dynamo Kyiv hosted FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League matchday 22 game.
Dynamo tried to apply pressure right off, but a few crosses into the penalty area didn’t result in any significant danger but for several corners.
Shakhtar coped with that and then suddenly opened the score. Visitors’ captain Stepanenko unleashed a strike from distance and the ball hit the net past Neshcheret – 0:1.
Upon conceding, Dynamo maintained possession, but still didn’t create real scoring opportunities.
Anyway, halfway through the first half, Mircea Lucescu’s men had a great chance to equalize. Benito eluded his opponent in the right wing, passed to Tymchyk and Olexandr crossed to the six-yard-box corner. If Vanat didn’t attempt to reach the ball, Vivcharenko could score from close range.
Right before the break, after the shot by Benito, the ball hit the hand of Rakytskyi inside the box. Still, upon checking VAR, referee Romanov didn’t award penalty in that episode.
After the break Dynamo couldn’t create anything for quite a while. Moreover, after the mistake by Diachuk, Shakhtar could increase the lead, but Gocholeishvili failed to shoot from a promising position.
Generally, visitors mostly focused on defense, but even despite that the White-Blues managed to find a breach. In the 82nd minute, Stepanenko fouled against Tsarenko and Andriyevskyi equalized from 22-meter distance with a fabulous strike – 1:1.
There was little time remaining, but Shakhtar were closer to scoring the decider. Neshcheret saved Dynamo as he was faster to reach the ball with a sliding tackle than Sudakov. In a stoppage time, Bondar attempted with a header, but our keeper was there for his team again.
So, it’s 1:1 draw which leaves Dynamo in the fourth place of the UPL table with four points behind Dnipro-1 (who’ve played two games less) and five behind Zoria.
