FC Dynamo Kyiv faced FC Metalist 1925 Kharkiv in the UPL matchday 18 game which was the White-Blues’ first official match after the winter break. Although formally Kyivans were the away side, the game took place at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Stadium. Dynamo won 4:2 although were 0:1 behind at first.
The match started with a trouble for Kyivans. In the 5th minute Kharkiv side arranged a good attack, ex-Dynamo midfielder Denys Harmash obtained ball in front of the penalty area and hit the target – 1:0.
Dynamo attempted with set pieces, but Popov missed with a header. Brazhko sent the ball wide from distance. Voloshyn had a decent opportunity, but after his header the ball went over the bar. Kharkiv side focused on counterattacks while Dynamo were increasing the pressure.
Vanat didn’t score in one-on-one situation. Voloshyn unleashed the strike from the box line, but goalkeeper Mozil reached the ball. Anyway the following Kyivans’ attack was a success. Kabayev netted the ball after assist from Vanat – 1:1.
The second half started with a decent opportunity for Dynamo. Karavayev missed the goal in a promising situation. Brazhko demonstrated another good shot, but keeper saved again.
After that the teams started exchanging numerous goals. Shaparenko dispossessed his opponent in the midfield, passed to Voloshyn, Nazar crossed into the penalty area and Vanat made it 1:2. In a few minutes Mozil parried the shot by Voloshyn, but Buialskyi was there with a follow-up – 1:3.
Metalist 1925 pulled one back quickly. Frimpong used the defenders’ mistake and scored. Then Dynamo had another great attack. Shaparenko hit the post, but Vanat was there to make it 2:4 from close range.
So, it’s 4:2 – Dynamo first win after the winter break. The White-Blues will play their next game on March 2 – against FC Chornomorets Odesa at the home ground.
