FC Dynamo Kyiv faced FC Obolon Kyiv away in the 2023/2024 Ukrainian Premier League matchday 2 game.
Dynamo maintained possession early in the match, but didn’t created any opportunities for a while. Furthermore, the home side hit the target in the 10th minute, but referee disallowed this goal due to offside.
Still Obolon got more confident and continued attacking. Pryimak attempted with a header after corner, but the ball went over the bar. Dynamo responded with a goal. Teammates found Vanat in the box and Vladyslav hit the target. At first referee flagged offside, but upon checking VAR confirmed it’s 0:1.
Home side rushed forward hoping to equalize. Chernenko unleashed a dangerous strike from distance, but Bushchan parried. Then our keeper cleared the shot by Sukhanov, while later Sukhanov missed from a promising position.
In the 29th minute Obolon player fouled against Buialskyi inside the box and referee awarded penalty. Yarmolenko converted from the spot which was his 100th UPL goal – 0:2.
Vanat could increase the lead, but didn’t cope with Fedorivskyi from a tight angle. Yarmolenko had more chances, but at first Chernenko cleared the ball from the goal line after his attempt and then Andriy hit the post.
43 minutes into the game Obolon used a set pieces. After a free kick from the side line the ball didn’t touch anyone and hit the net. At first referee cancelled the goal due to offside, but then consulted VAR again and the score became 1:2.
Still Dynamo finished the first half being two goals in front. Dubinchak put a low cross from the left side and Buialskyi scored from close range – 1:3.
In the second half Obolon didn’t lose faith and pulled one more back in the 50th minute. After a cross from the right wing the ball reached Karas, who headed it in – 2:3.
Dynamo had a great opportunity as Sydorchuk hit the post, Yarmolenko was the first with a follow-up, but hit the woodwork too.
Obolon scored again in the 60th minute, but this goal was cancelled fairly due to another offside.
Halfway through the second half Hrusha let his team down as he got two bookings within a few minutes and was sent off. Then Obolon defender fouled against Vanat inside the box and referee awarded another penalty for visitors. Yarmolenko converted from the spot – 2:4.
Anyway, Obolon didn’t give up even being outnumbered. Chernenko attempted with a free kick decently, but Bushchan parried. Meanwhile home side keeper performed a fabulous save as Voloshyn shot after spectacular heel pass from Buialskyi.
So, it’s 4:2 for Dynamo in Kyiv derby. The White-Blues will play their next game on August 10 – against Aris away.
