On Friday, August 9, FC Dynamo Kyiv started their 2024/2025 Ukrainian Premier League campaign. The White-Blues’ matchday 1 game against FC Oleksandria was postponed due to the Champions League qualification, so they started with matchday 2. Kyiv side faced FC Veres Rivne away.
Dynamo took the ball under control predictably straight away. Popov attempted with a header after cross from a free kick – the ball went wide. Then Supriaha appeared one-on-one with the keeper, but Kozhukhar saved. Still in a few minutes he was helpless as Shaparenko obtained the ball and sent it over the goalkeeper – 0:1.
Then Shaparenko could increase the lead after pass from Voloshyn, but missed from inside the box. Dynamo continued attacking and shooting. Buialskyi and Shaparenko had more opportunities, but were a bit unlucky. Voloshyn also rushed one-on-one with Kozhukhar, but defender saved his keeper.
Right before the break Kyivans had a great attack down the center, Shaparenko found Buialskyi and Vitalii doubled the score – 0:2.
Early in the second half Braharu missed with his attempt. Meanwhile things were getting emotional on the field. Rivne were doing their best to pull one back at least and were awarded for their efforts. Neshcheret made a mistake trying to clear the ball, hit Sharai and the ball appeared in the net – 1:2.
Dynamo increased the pressure. Buialskyi unleashed the strike from a promising position, but Kozhukhar parried. Then the post saved Veres after powerful shot by Dubinchak from distance! Braharu could succeed, but didn’t cope with the keeper after pass from Buialskyi. Generally the teams demonstrated spectacular football with lots of chances. Late in the game home side mostly maintained possession and even could equalize as Luan attempted and the ball rebounded from Tymchyk, but went wide.
In a stoppage time Neshcheret saved Dynamo as parried the strike by Iago Siqueira from outside the box. The game ended win an episode when Ponomarenko aimed at the open goal from distance, but missed.
So, it’s 2:1 for the White-Blues. Dynamo will play their next UPL game on Saturday, August 17 – against FC Karpaty Lviv away.
