Andriy Husin

Andriy Husin

Andriy Husin (born December 11, 1972, in Zolochiv, Lviv region) was a key figure in Dynamo Kyiv during the era of the club’s “third star” under Valeriy Lobanovskyi. Initially a forward, Husin was transformed by Lobanovskyi into one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation. Known for his focus, discipline, and professionalism, he combined a cheerful personality off the field with uncompromising determination on it. Husin came from a family of athletes, and his sporting talent showed early, allowing him to excel in football and athletics before committing fully to the pitch.

Husin made his professional debut with Karpaty Lviv in 1992, quickly impressing with his goal-scoring ability. He debuted for the Ukraine national team in 1993, immediately scoring, and soon joined Dynamo Kyiv, where he faced fierce competition but gradually became a central figure. Between 1997 and 2004, he played 264 matches for Dynamo, scoring 32 goals, winning seven Ukrainian championships, four Ukrainian Cups, and the first Ukrainian Super Cup. His performances in European competitions, including matches against Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen, cemented his reputation as a world-class midfielder.

After leaving Dynamo at 32, Husin extended his career with Krylia Sovetov, Saturn, and Khimki, while also beginning coaching work as an assistant. He later led Dynamo-2 Kyiv, helping develop future professional players. Tragically, at age 41, Husin died in a motorcycle accident in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, talent, and love for football. Today, he is remembered through memorial tournaments, and his footballing spirit continues in his sons, who also play in central positions.
