Oleh Husiev

Oleh Husiev (born April 25, 1983, in Stepanivka, Sumy region) is one of the most prominent footballers from the Sumy region. Coming from a footballing family, he showed early talent in youth competitions, quickly progressing through local clubs and debuting in the Ukrainian Second League at age 17. His performances attracted attention from top Ukrainian and some Russian clubs, but Husiev gradually advanced through the domestic pyramid, demonstrating speed, versatility, and a strong competitive character.

In 2003, Husiev joined Dynamo Kyiv, quickly establishing himself as a key player. He made his national team debut the same year and became a vital member of Ukraine’s squad for many years. Known for his adaptability Husiev could play as a winger, fullback or defensive midfielder, often covering entire flanks and providing crucial goals and assists. His professionalism, team-first attitude and consistency made him a model player in both club and national team setups.

During his career Husiev won five Ukrainian league titles, five Ukrainian Cups and three Ukrainian Super Cups with Dynamo Kyiv, reaching the UEFA Cup semifinals in 2009. For the national team, he played 98 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists, including the decisive penalty that sent Ukraine to the 2006 World Cup quarterfinals. After retiring as a player, he began coaching at Dynamo Kyiv, eventually joining Mircea Lucescu’s first-team staff as an assistant, continuing his contribution to Ukrainian football both on and off the pitch.
