Dynamo Kyiv records — biggest wins in the Soviet championship

Dynamo Kyiv holds a historic place in Soviet football as the most successful club in USSR championship history, winning a record 13 league titles. Their first triumph came in 1961, making them the first non-Moscow club to become champions while their last title was secured in 1990. Over decades the team played around 1,500 matches in the Soviet top division.

Although Dynamo achieved many dominant victories only nine matches in their history featured wins by a margin of six goals or more, highlighting how competitive the league was.

The club’s biggest victories were two 8:0 wins — against Chornomorets Odesa in 1977 and Torpedo Kutaisi in 1983. The 1977 match was especially significant as it came during a championship-winning season and showcased Dynamo’s attacking brilliance.

Before that the largest win for many years had been a 7:0 victory over Spartak Leningrad in 1938. This record was later matched and even surpassed in terms of goals scored, including an 8:1 win over Spartak Yerevan in 1962.

In 1980s Dynamo recorded more dominant performances, including two 7:0 victories against Ararat Yerevan (1984 and 1987), making the Armenian club one of the most frequent victims of such heavy defeats. Chornomorets Odesa also suffered multiple large losses to Dynamo.

Additionally there were several 6:0 wins, including a notable away victory over Burevestnik Moscow in 1938 which remains the club’s biggest away win in the Soviet championship.

Interestingly, the year 1938 alone accounted for three of these biggest victories, underlining an early period of attacking dominance. However such large-margin wins were relatively rare overall due to the high level of competition in the Soviet league.
