Dynamo Kyiv — biggest wins in European competitions

Dynamo Kyiv’s biggest victories in European competitions reflect the club’s long-standing strength on the international stage, spanning from its very first appearance in Europe to modern tournaments.

The record for the largest win was set during the famous 1998/1999 season, one of the most successful in the club’s history. In the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League Dynamo Kyiv defeated Barry Town 8:0 in Kyiv. The team completely dominated the match, scoring consistently throughout both halves. This result remains the biggest European victory in the club’s history. That same season Dynamo went on to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, their best achievement in the competition.

The second tier of biggest wins includes several matches with a six-goal margin. One of them came in 2025 when Dynamo beat Zrinjski Mostar 6:0 in the UEFA Conference League. After a difficult start to the campaign this match became a breakthrough with goals coming from multiple players and showcasing attacking depth. Another 6:0 victory was recorded in 2016 against Beşiktaş in the Champions League group stage. Although Dynamo had already been eliminated they finished their campaign with a powerful performance. This remains their biggest win in the main stage of the Champions League.

Beşiktaş has, in fact, been one of the most frequent opponents to suffer heavy defeats against Dynamo. Another famous victory over the Turkish side dates back to 1987 in the European Cup quarter-finals when Dynamo won 5:0. The match was played in İzmir instead of Istanbul due to severe weather conditions. Despite disrupted preparations Dynamo delivered a dominant performance in a crucial knockout tie.

One more historic result came in 1965 when Dynamo played their first ever match in European competitions. Facing Coleraine in the Cup Winners’ Cup the team won 6:1 away in Northern Ireland. This match marked a strong debut for both the club and Soviet football in European tournaments as participation had been delayed for political and ideological reasons.

In addition to these matches Dynamo Kyiv has recorded 12 victories in European competitions with a margin of four goals (including eleven 4:0 wins and one 5:1) as well as 27 wins by a margin of three goals. These results underline the club’s consistent ability to dominate opponents on the European stage.

Among individual achievements Serhii Rebrov is the club’s top scorer in European competitions with 31 goals. He is followed by Oleg Blokhin with 26 goals and Andriy Shevchenko with 25. Other notable scorers include Andriy Yarmolenko, Maksim Shatskikh and Oleh Husiev.
