Andriy Yarmolenko: «It was good that we scored two goals before the break»

Leader of Dynamo Kyiv Andriy Yarmolenko shared his emotions on UPL.TV after the 2:1 victory over FC Obolon Kyiv, a match in which he converted a penalty.

– It can already be stated that you have moved into sole third place on the list of the all-time top scorers in Ukrainian championships. How do you perceive such achievements?

- To be honest I don’t really think about it. Of course it’s great to score goals but it’s even more pleasant that I started the match, played my minutes, scored and the team won. Everything is great, we are in a good mood and are preparing for the next match.

– You started a match for the first time since November. What emotions did you feel returning to the starting lineup?

- You always want to play. Every footballer wants to play but we have a full squad and it’s up to the head coach to decide who will play.

– Opponents played quite aggressively against you. Were you prepared for such a tough game?

- Of course we were prepared. We analyzed them and knew how they play. They are a good team, they play compactly and defend well. That’s why it’s difficult to break down such a defense. Especially when the score was 0:0 they had one attack and suddenly it became 0:1 not in our favor. The task became a bit more complicated but we reacted well. We kept pressing their goal. It was good that we scored those two goals before halftime and in the second half we could play more according to the score.

– How much did the conceded goal affect you? It looked like you were very emotional after that moment…

- Of course emotions were not the best. For the first 20 minutes they had no attacks at all, they didn’t even cross the halfway line. They were only thinking about defending, then one attack and we concede. Naturally it wasn’t the best feeling but we understood we had to keep going because we were creating chances. We knew we just needed to be more composed with the ball in the final third and everything would be fine.

– The scoreline shows only a minimal advantage but in terms of the game Dynamo controlled it. Why do you think you didn’t score more goals?

- Probably because the opposing team defended well and didn’t allow us to do that. Of course we wanted to score more especially to avoid repeating our previous experience when they equalized in the final minutes. But it is what it is and the most important thing is the victory.
