Benjamin Verbic: “I hope I’ll play for Dynamo in the Champions League”

- What does your day routine look like during the quarantine?

- I wake up, have breakfast, got to the training complex with Pivaric to have a session, then I have lunch my brother cooks. He’s stayed in Kyiv as he couldn’t go home. We’ve been living together for a month. We play Counter-Strike and FIFA. He wants me to teach him Russian (smiling). I watch movies and series. “Money heist” is a really good one.

I miss football and hope everything will be okay. I’m tired of staying home. Players want to have a normal training process.

- How do you compensate the lack of football? Maybe you watch some old matches?

- Yes, they broadcast those on TV. I’ve watched Dynamo games against Shakhtar that took place about 10 years ago. Those were really good teams.

- How do you stay fit during the quarantine?

- They send us exercises we need to do. That’s mostly jogging and gym work.

- Can modern Dynamo qualify for the Champions League group stage?

- We don’t know when we’ll be able to play, but I think Dynamo must reach the group stage. I hope I’ll play for Dynamo in the Champions League.

- Which of Dynamo youngsters can perform in some top league?

- Definitely Mykolenko and Tsyhankov. Also Shaparenko, Tsytaishvili, Lednev. We have quite a lot of youngsters, who can perform in some top league of for Dynamo first team.

- Who would win if Ukraine faced Slovenia?

- That would be interesting. I guess Slovenia would win (smiling). But Ukraine have pretty good chances at the Euro. I really enjoyed their game against Portugal. I think Ukraine will get out of the group.

- What’s your most memorable match for Dynamo?

- I think that’s the match against Shakhtar when I scored and we won 1:0. The atmosphere was great.

- What was the most surprising for you when you came to Ukraine?

- I was surprised by Kyiv as this city is awesome. There are a lot of nice restaurants and historical sights here. Dnipro, Maidan.

- What’s your favourite spot in Kyiv?

- Dynamo training complex (laughing). I like the new pedestrian bridge. There’s a spectacular view there.

- Top 3 Ukrainian stadiums?

- NSC Olimpiyskyi, Arena Lviv and Chornomorets.

- Do you listen to any Ukrainian or Russian music?

- I do. For example “Plakala” by KAZKA. I often listen to this song in my car. When I’m alone I can even sing out loud. But I hope no one ever hears how I sing (laughing).

- What kind of movies do you like?

- I like those based on true stories. My favourite one is “Scarface” with Al Pacino starring. As for series, I like “Peaky blinders”, “Money heist”, “Friends”.

- What would you wish Dynamo supporters?

- I can wish them only good health. I hope everything will be fine. See you soon.
