The Channel One Cup 2009, which was initially scheduled to start in January 2009, has been cancelled.
The organizers came to the conclusion not to hold the tournament this year after Russian football clubs FC Spartak, reigning Russian champions FC Rubin, FC Dynamo Moskva and then FC Zenit all refused to take part in the competition. The tournament's future is now unclear. Thus, Dynamo Kyiv remain the reigning Cup holders.
