On Tuesday, November 18, Ukraine’s U19 national team (players born in 2007 or later) played their third and final match of the Euro 2026 qualifying round which will be held next spring in Wales.
In the first round of Euro 2026 (U19) qualifying Ukraine is competing in Group 5 with Albania hosting the mini-tournament. In their opening match Dmytro Mykhailenko’s side faced the hosts – Albania’s U19 team – and confidently won 3:0. In the second match they defeated Montenegro by the same score. As a result the team secured at least second place and a ticket to the Elite round. However, in the third match, held in the town of Rrogozhine against Slovakia, the group winner was to be determined.
This game also ended with a Ukrainian victory – 3:0. All goals were scored in the first half. The first two came from set pieces: both goals were headed in after corner deliveries from Dynamo player Bohdan Redushko, who recorded two assists. Goals were finished by Dmytro Bohdanov and later Kyrylo Dihtiar. On the last minute of first-half stoppage time Kamenskyi beat several opponents beautifully and passed to Popov. Our forward won the position, controlled the ball and a Slovak defender, trying to stop him, accidentally redirected it into his own net.
In the second half both teams created dangerous chances but the score remained unchanged.
Both Dynamo representatives called up to the squad took part in the match. Midfielder Bohdan Redushko started and was substituted in the 80th minute. He was replaced by defender Kostiantyn Hubenko who played the closing minutes of the match.
With confident victories in all three matches Ukraine’s U19 national team advanced to the Elite round of Euro 2026 qualifying from first place in the group earning the maximum 9 points.
Two best teams from each group have qualified for the Elite round along with the best third-placed team across all groups. There they will join Spain which enters the competition directly at this stage. Elite round matches will take place in spring 2026: in seven groups seven national teams will be determined to join host nation Wales at the final tournament of Euro 2026 (U19) for which Wales has qualified automatically.
