FC Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu has commented upon the Champions League 3rd qualifying round first leg against SK Sturm Graz.
- Sturm started really fast and tried to cause us troubles, but we coped with their pressure and tried to maintain possession. Visitors defended very well, so the game was tough for us, but so it was for Sturm.
We got some issues before the match as Tsyhankov said he felt pain and we had to change the starting lineup.
I think we deserved that goal as we created more chances while Sturm created just one or two early in the game.
- Which of three euro cups games Dynamo have already played was the best one for your team?
- It’s hard to say as Fenerbahce and Sturm have different styles. Austrians are doing great in terms of fitness. They started the match very well. Their emphasis was on pressing and long balls, but after 10 minutes we figured out what was going on. After that Sturm mostly defended.
Was the match tough? All teams are really good on at this level.
As I’ve said, we’ve deserved this result. Unfortunately, we haven’t scored the second one. We had opportunities for that.
- Which players impressed you the most today?
- The whole team did. It matters what you do as a team. One should always aim for orderly and disciplined teamwork.
It’s not easy to control the situation on the field when you face such opponent as Sturm. We watched their games against Salzburg, Galatasaray, Wolfsberger and had to find a way to deal with their pressing.
