FC Dynamo Kyiv – 12-times Ukrainian Cup winners!

Although FC Vorskla Poltava weren’t among top six in the UPL it wasn’t expected the White-Blues would get easy win. It was a chance to save a failed season for Vorskla and to guarantee themselves participation in the Europa League group stage. As for Dynamo, they hadn’t been winning this trophy since 2015, besides they wanted to redeem themselves for the lost league title.

Comparing with the last game the White-Blues lost against FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Olexiy Mykhailychenko made five substitutions in the starting lineup.

Poltava side started the game courageously and Stepaniuk scored the early opener after cross from the right side.

This goal made Dynamo get more active. Syrota attempted with a header, but Vorskla keeper saved his team. De Pena attempted from distance, but his shot went wide. Anyway, in the 28th minute Riznyk didn’t manage to clear the shot by Verbic  from inside the box and the score became equal.

The White-Blues weren’t going to stop, but didn’t score another one in the first half.

After the break the teams kept exchanging chances. Tsytaishvili and Shepelev responded attempts of Kane and Kulach, but all of those were a failure.

70 minutes into the game Shepelev converted the cross from the wing into a goal, but referee made a doubtful decision and cancelled it due to offside…of Verbic, who didn’t touch the ball. Anyway, after that and some Dynamo efforts the match resumed in extra time.

Still that didn’t bring any goals either.

Dynamo turned out to be luckier in the penalty shootout. First 14 shots were a success by representatives of both sides. And then Vorskla players Sapai and Bayenko failed. Meanwhile Dynamo only failure was by Mykolenko. Eventually Shabanov hit the target and handed the White-Blues the 12th Ukrainian Cup in their history!
