Events

During the winter break, which lasted till April, Dynamo managed to save the squad almost completely. In 1931 the head of Kyiv police was in charge of the team. The White-Blues started the year with Baku – Tbilisi tour (April 2-11).

In 1931 Kyiv picked team included mostly Dynamo performers and won the Ukrainian League. On May 22 Kyivans flattened Dnipropetrovsk side away – 4:0. On June 1 they were victorious over Kadiivka in the semifinal – 3:1 and on June 3 they defeated Metalist in the final – 3:1.

On September 6 Kyiv lost against St. Petersburg in a friendly – 1:3. On September 9 these sides played in a draw – 1:1.

On September 22 Kyivans with nine Dynamo players in their squad drew against Moscow – 3:3. Eventually on September 26 FC Dynamo Kyiv lost against FC Dinamo Moscow away – 2:3.

Players

In 1931 Yuriy Voinov was born. He was one of the USSR best halfbacks ever. He performed for FC Zenit St.Petersburg (1951-1955) and FC Dynamo Kyiv (1956-1964). Yuriy made 276 appearances in the Soviet Top League and scored 27 goals. Voinov became domestic league winner (1961) and runner-up (1960). He had 23 caps and netted 3 goals for the USSR.

Memorable matches

The Soviet Top League was founded in 1936. Before that teams played friendlies all over the country. Battles of two sides from different republics were very intriguing. In 1931 there were two such matches. On June 26 FC Dynamo Kyiv defeated South Caucasus – 3:0. On September 9 Kyiv drew against St. Petersburg – 1:1.
