Dynamo – Shakhtar. Cup finals history (+ VIDEO)

Only four times other teams won this trophy (FC Chornomorets Odesa twice, SC Tavria Simferopol, FC Vorskla Poltava).

Both Dynamo and Shakhtar won the national cup nine times.

Moreover Kyivans won three face-to-face fixtures against Shakhtar within the national cup final just like Donetsk side.

Let’s recall six final Ukrainian “classicos”. Each of them was unique.

The most tragic final

2001/2002 Ukrainian Cup. Final. Dynamo – Shakhtar – 2:3 (extra-time)

26.05.2002. Kyiv. NSC Olimpiyskyi. 81 000 spectators

Goals: Belkevych (31), Shatskikh (50) – Popov (10), Atelkin (81), Vorobei (98)

The match started with moment of silence in memory of Valeriy Lobanovskyi, who passed a way two weeks before the game.

Shatskikh slotted Dynamo ahead early in the second half, but Shakhtar managed to equalize several minutes before the time and to score the decider in extra-time.

The most intense final

29.05.2005. Kyiv, NSC Olimpiyskyi. 60 000 spectators

Goal: Diogo Rincon (11, pen.)

11 minutes into the match Norwegian referee Terje Hauge awarded penalty for Dynamo and Rincon converted from the spot.

Several minutes later Shakhtar had a chance to do the same, but Olexandr Shovkovskyi parried Lewandowski’s shot.

The most emotional final

2006/2007 Ukrainian Cup. Final. Dynamo – Shakhtar – 2:1

27.05.2007. Kyiv, NSC Olimpiyskyi, 64 500 spectators

Goals: Elano (89) – Kleber (60), Husiev (81).

The game wasn’t spectacular until Dynamo Brazilian forward Kleber opened the score. That made Shakhtar perform more actively and gave Kyivans a possibility to use counterattacks. Eventually Oleh Husiev netted the second goal.

Shakhtar managed to hit the target only a minute before the time.

That was the White-Blues last triumph in Ukrainian Cup.

The most disorderly final

2007/2008 Ukrainian Cup. Final. Shakhtar – Dynamo – 2:0

07.05.2008. Kharkiv, OSC Metalist. 25 000 spectators

Goals: Hladkyi (44), Hai (77).

That was the most disorderly national cup final as referee Viktor Shvetsov had to send off five performers.

Shakhtar won the game due to goals netted by Hladkyi and Hai.

The most pragmatic final

2010/2011 Ukrainian Cup. Final. Dynamo – Shakhtar – 0:2

25.05.2011. Sumy. Yuvileinyi Stadium. 27 800 spectators

Goals: Eduardo (64), Adriano (87)

Shakhtar opened the score 64 minutes into the match, but Dynamo had chances to equalize. Artem Milevskyi hit the post.

Donetsk side played very pragmatically and used a counterattack to score the second goal.

Poltava battle

2013/14 Ukrainian Cup. Final. Dynamo – Shakhtar – 2:1

15.05.2014. Poltava. O. Butovskyi Stadium. 9,700 spectators

Goals: Kucher (39, o.g.), Vida (43) – Douglas Costa (57).

Dynamo applied pressure and made Shakhtar foul in front of the penalty area. Eventually Kyivans succeeded due to set pieces. 39 minutes into the game Piatov didn’t clear the ball properly after corner, Vida unleashed the shot on target, Kucher tried to save his team, but scored own goal instead.

Four minutes later Serhiy Rebrov’s men doubled the score. Miguel put a cross into the box and Vida headed the ball in – 2:0!

After the break Shakhtar managed to score only once. Douglas Costa hit the bottom corner after solo effort.
