Ten-man Dynamo Kyiv drew 1-1 with SC Braga in their first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday night.
The visitors arrived to the capital of Ukraine in confident mood, as they were inspired by their Round of 16 success over FC Liverpool. The game started with a high tempo with Yuriy Semin’s men putting Braga under real pressure from the very beginning. Not surprisingly, it took just 6 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Oleh Husyev broke away from a Braga defender on the right flank before curling a fine cross for Andriy Yarmolenko in the box, and the striker made no mistake with his header. Unfortunately, the parity was restored just seven minutes later, when Husev deflected the ball into his own net.
The game livened up after the interval as both sides toiled in search of a winner, but all their endeavours ultimately proved to be in vain. Besides, Dynamo were forced to play a man down for a half-an-hour after they had second-half substitute Andriy Shevchenko sent off for two yellow cards.
The result means that everything will now be decided in Portugal in a week's time.
