A second-half goal from Andriy Yarmolenko helped Dynamo Kyiv record a hard-fought narrow victory over FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih and secure all three points on Sunday evening.
With a number of key players, including Andriy Shevchenko and Oleh Husyev, sidelined through injury, there were two more serious casualties in Yuriy Semin’s squad as midfielders Roman Eremenko and Miloš Ninković joined the treatment table with a fever.
The match started with passion, with both teams creating dangerous situations and having good chances to score. However, neither side was able to find the opener, and the first half somehow remained goalless.
The White-Blues improved substantially after the restart and eventually broke the deadlock five minutes into the second period through Andriy Yarmlenko. Receiving the ball on the right flank, he danced towards the box and fired powerfully into the far corner of the net.
As the final whistle approached Kryvbas ramped up the pressure on Shovkovskyy's goal. Nonetheless, the Kyivers managed to withstand the onslaught and seal three points. Tonight's important win means the gap between top-placed Shakhtar and second-placed Dynamo remains the same – two points.
