Dynamo stroll into Cup final

The White-Blues came away from the Shaktar Stadium with a 1-0 win over Metalurh Donetsk as midfielder Tiberiu Ghioane struck a second-half winner to steer his side into the Ukrainian Cup final.

Dynamo could have made the game safe early into the match, had Aliyev’s from Milevskyy’s cross not been blocked and had not Corrêa failed to punish Vorobyov for his blunder. The teams then wilted away, routinely creating semi-chances and shooting wastefully wide.

Things got livelier after the start. First, Fernandes, who had had some good matches before, blew his chance tonight. It was then Shatskikh who found the net following Corrêa’s cross, but the referee adjudged a contentious foul of the Uzbek international on his opponent.

The hosts occasionally were adopting an attacking approach, but Dynamo defense, previously taught a lesson by Metalurh, proved stubborn. The breakthrough came on 68 minutes, when Ghiaone raced into the box and slotted home a low shot into the near corner, keeping Dynamo in contention for their fourth consecutive cup trophy.
