FC Dynamo Kyiv continued their promising UEFA Champions League campaign with a 0-1 win against FC Porto as a thunderous first-half strike from Olexandr Aliyev condemned FC Porto to their first home defeat in 12 games.
The victory moved Dynamo into second position of Group G with five points. At present, Yuriy Semin's team well placed to reach the last 16 while Porto have now lost their last two matches and must take something from their trip to Kiev on Matchday 4 to maintain realistic hopes of progression.
The winning goal came in the 27th minute when Oleksandr Aliyev netted a 30-metre free-kick into the top left-hand corner with Nuno stepping the wrong way. The Ukrainian side had not collected three points since Matchday 1 of the 2004/05 season.
Nevertheless, the final margin of victory in today’s fixture could have been even greater had the White-Blues converted one of several presentable opportunities. However, the host team created many dangerous scoring chances as well. Luckily, the visitors’ defense and goalkeeper Stanislav Bogush have done an excellent job saving their team from threat on a number of occasions.
