He passed away unexpectedly on August 1. On the hot summer morning hundreds of people came to Dynamo Stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskyi to say final goodbyes to the legend of Ukrainian and Belarusian football. They entered the room in turns, left flowers, recalled the deceased and said last words.
Of course Valentyn’s parents, wife Olesia, son Volodymyr and best friend Olexandr Khatskevych were present at the ceremony.
There also were representatives of Football Federations of Ukraine and Belarus, teammates and colleagues of Belkevych, Dynamo main squad Ukrainian players and coaching staff, Dynamo-2, DynamoAcademy trainees, journalists and just fans. Valentyn’s ex-wife Anna Sedokova came from the USA with daughter Alina.
People brought a lot of funeral wreaths which formed a kind of passage through which Valentyn Belkevych was taken to the car to applause.
Eventually the catafalque went to the BaikoveCemetery…
Belkevych was buried in front of graves of Bohdan Stupka and Valeriy Lobanovskyi.
