During the night of September 28 to 29, matches of the second round of the CONCACAF Nations League took place. Suriname, represented by Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Justin Lonwijk, played the second of the four matches scheduled for the team during this international break. Following a 3:2 victory over Honduras, Genk Fraser's side faced Martinique.
Suriname secured a 2:1 home victory. The Dynamo player came on as a substitute after the break and played the entire second half, scoring a goal. The first 45 minutes ended goalless at 0:0, although the visitors came close to taking the lead at least twice.
In the 54th minute, Lonwijk opened the scoring with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. In the middle of the half, Kerk doubled his side's lead. Only near the end of the match did Martinique pull one goal back: Moltenis scored to make the final score 2:1.
Having earned six points from two matches, Suriname lead Group B of League A in the CONCACAF Nations League. Martinique have yet to earn a point. Honduras, Jamaica, Guatemala and El Salvador have three points each.
Justin Lonwijk's national team will play their next matches against Guatemala (October 3 at 1:00 a.m. at home and October 6 at 3:00 a.m. away).
It should be noted that Lonwijk has made 15 appearances for the Suriname national team, scoring five goals.
