Ihor Kostiuk: «In the first part of the camp the focus will be on functional readiness»

The head coach of Dynamo Kyiv commented on the start of the team’s winter training camp in Turkey.

- The main thing today is that in the morning we conducted testing and obtained quite good results. Based on this we understand how we need to structure our work so as not to repeat it. We can see that players worked well during the vacation and completed the program we gave them. Therefore we won’t be doing what had originally been planned in terms of building a basic foundation and now we are already moving on to the second phase of preparation - working on speed endurance. Running work will now be combined with specific drills and strength training will also be added.

We talk a lot with players about what we are doing and why we are doing it. They approach this with understanding and it works to our advantage because the team is united around a single goal. Players are in a good mood and carry out tasks we set for them.

- The camp will last a whole month. How do you plan it and what will the main focuses be?

- Of course in the first part of the camp the emphasis will be on functional readiness. Together with our fitness coaches we are planning the work in such a way that there will be both strength training and time for recovery before matches. The second part of the preparation will be more focused on tactics with more friendly matches. Although we will also play training matches during the first part as well.

Naturally those matches will be played under conditions of fatigue but that is a normal working process. We need to prepare for the season and lay a solid foundation. The physical loads we have planned for this camp should help us solve tasks that await us in the second half of the season.
