Ihor Surkis: “First of all I focus on team progress”

FC Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis has shared his impressions of the White-Blues’ win against FC Polissia Zhytomyr (3:0) in the UPL matchday 25 game.

- What’s more important to you – this win or the gap between Dynamo and Shakhtar in the league table?

- First of all I focus on team progress. We’ve got youngsters, who’re really making headway. Mircea Lucescu came to this match and I wanted to hear his opinion. He said that the progress is obvious. As for the league table, we’ll check it as the season comes to an end.

- How come Lucescu came to this match?

- He’s curious as he opened the path to big football for many of these players. Now they’re on the level he probably wanted to see them on. But this is football – if the results are poor, you need to change something. It was Lucescu’s decision to leave. He’s a wise person and I’m grateful to him. For all those years he spent with Dynamo.

- Whose performance did he like the most today?

- He really liked Shaparenko, also Mykhavko and Popov. He didn’t mention anyone in particular, but I asked for his opinion. Vanat demonstrates significant progress. Yarmolenko is Yarmolenko, his presence on the field means a lot to our team.

- As for Shaparenko, you mentioned he’s worth 300 million. Was that a joke?

- It wasn’t. I read that Sudakov is worth 150 million, so I said that when Shaparenko reaches his top shape he’ll be worth 300 million.

- We saw a goal by Shaparenko today. Has he reached his peak already?

- He will quite soon, but not just yet.

- This wasn’t your first meeting with Lucescu after his resignation, was it?

- We met at the training camp. He follows the team closely and we maintain really good relationship.

- The team looked more confident, comparing with the game against Mynai. How good is that?

- Today we opposed the team we had to take very seriously. Guys did their job responsibly.

- Were you nervous before this game, considering the defeat in Zhytomyr in the first round?

- I’m never nervous. Today we faced Polissia, in a week we’ll play in Dnipro. I’ve been in football for 30 years, so I shouldn’t distinguish between wins and defeats, as Valerii Lobanovskyi used to say.
