President of Dynamo Kyiv Ihor Surkis shared his emotions on UPL-TV after “White-Blues” won the Ukrainian Cup by defeating Chernihiv (3:1) in the final.
– Did players make you nervous?
– I understood that we were better and had to win this match. First of all for these supporters. The season was unsuccessful, I would say, but at least we have the Cup.
– What are you feelings right now?
– Guys are celebrating, and I hope that next season they will also play for victory in the championship – gold medals suit us very well too.
– You said the season was unsuccessful. Does winning the Cup make this season better or does league position still make you feel that something went wrong?
– A trophy is a trophy, it is history. Guys won it, and I am very grateful to everyone. Including Oleksandr Shovkovskyi because the victory over Shakhtar Donetsk was the road to the final. That is why I am very grateful to him: he beat Shakhtar in Kyiv, it was a very difficult match, and today we put a bold finishing point on it.
– Now you are level with Shakhtar on 40 trophies each. Did you know about that?
– I knew. I know all statistics; it is important for supporters first of all. And we must prepare properly and play better next season than we did this season.
– You qualified for the Europa League, starting from the first round, and there are only about a month and a half left before the new season starts. Is the club already thinking about strengthening the squad?
– We are thinking about strengthening but under no circumstances will we block the path for our young players. I spoke with the president of the Football Association, and he told me that young players need to be developed and gain experience. We will strengthen certain positions but we will never block the way for our young guys.
– The last time you spoke on UPL-TV, after the match against Kryvbas, you said that experienced players like Yarmolenko and Buialskii delivered the result in an important match.
– They showed again today that experienced players deliver results. That is why they must stay in the team. Buialskii still has a year and a half left on his contract. And as for Andriy Yarmolenko… Ask him. Personally I would very much like him to continue playing football. Although he could also help as a sporting director. We are not talking about combining roles of player and sporting director because in that case he would have influence over the head coach.
– So at the end of this season you still haven’t talked much about the future and next season?
– We talked about him scoring and breaking the record. If not this season then next season.
– Have you already held the mace?
– I held the mace. The Cup is very beautiful, a symbolic trophy. And first of all I am grateful to our Defenders for making such a celebration possible – something that could only happen thanks to them.
