With a feeling of deep sorrow, I took the news of the death of an outstanding football functionary - Lennart Johansson.
It is impossible to overestimate his contribution to the development of European football. After becoming president of UEFA in 1990, Lennart Johansson made enormous efforts over 17 years to bring continental football to a new, higher level.
One of his main achievements was the creation of the UEFA Champions League - the most prestigious club tournament in the world, to participate in which has always been the goal and honor for Dynamo Kyiv. The trophy of the UEFA Youth League is named after Lennart Johansson – a tournament in which the youth team of our club has always performed recent years.
After leaving the post of UEFA President in 2007, Lennart Johansson was named Honorary UEFA President and continued to take an active part in the work of committees, sharing his knowledge, experience and ideas.
On behalf of all Dynamo Kyiv and myself, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
