The Division1 club Presidents’ meeting, which took place Wed 14 Nov in Kyiv, was unanimous in its decision to set up the Premier League in Ukraine. The agreement was reached by 14 atendees, with two absentees having provided a written consent.
Dynamo President Ihor Surkis was among those who endorsed the idea. “What was offered at today’s meeting is to create a symbiosis that would use the best of Russian, British as well as Italian experience. We may run into a host of organizational difficulties, but hopefully this will happen with the lowest possible risk. The working group we set up today is to officially inform the UFF (Ukrainian Football Federation) about the decisions we make”, the club’s president was quoted by the Ukrainian paper Sports Express.
“Those not investing in soccer evince little, if any interest, in our sports development. Therefore, I believe it ought to be one of the 16 club presidents [who will be elected for a one-year term] should be at the helm of the new institution. For instance, Karpaty’s Petro Dymynskyy could take up the position”, told Ihor Surkis the same media source.
