Illichivets joined the Ukrainian Vyshcha Liha in the 1997/1998 season and was previously called FC Metalurh Mariupol. The name of the club was changed to Illichivets during the winter break in the 2002/2003 season. The first match against Dynamo was held on 4 August, 1997 and ended with the White-Вlues’ victory 3:0.
Overall, twenty-three matches were played between the two teams in the Ukrainian Championship. Dynamo have never lost a match to Illichivets, winning twenty-one and drawing the other two. These games have yielded a total of 54 goals for the Kyivers, with 13 goals against.
The most prolific Dynamo strikers in the matches against Illichivets (Metalurh) are Serhiy Rebrov, Florin Cernat and Maksim Shatskikh. Each of them managed to score 4 goals in the rivals’ net. Best strikers from Mariupol are Volodymyr Braila and Eduard Tsikhmeistruk, with each scoring two goals.
