Carlos de Pena: “I feel fine, so I’m ready to work and play”

FC Dynamo Kyiv Uruguayan halfback Carlos de Pena has told about his COVID issues and return to work.

- Carlos, yesterday you worked individually while today rejoined the team. Have doctors let you?

- Yes, fortunately I’m fine. I had COVID-19 when in Uruguay. Besides, I had a long flight to Ukraine, so yesterday I worked individually. This morning doctors examined me and made sure I’m okay. I’m ready to work and play.

- Did you stick to the individual training program during vacation?

- Sure, I fulfilled the program completely. When I got COVID, I tried not to overextend myself, but I didn’t stop training. I did stretching and other exercises. Anyway, I did everything I was supposed to before I got sick, so I’m ready for the training camp.

- At the afternoon session of the second day you practiced shots on target and attacks finishing. There were spectacular strikes and saves. Did you enjoy that after the break without football?

- Of course! Usually attacking players like that kind of sessions. For goalkeepers, it’s not always that fun, but that’s beneficial for everyone. It was a good exciting session that finished with a small competition. We’re reconditioning day-by-day. In a few days we’ll play the first friendly.

- Did your team with the competition today?

- We didn’t. The blue team did. We’ll try to do better next time.

- Dynamo will have three training camps this winter. Are you ready for that?

- Totally. The first official game will take place on February 26. We have a lot of time to recondition and get ready for the season. I’m glad we’re working in Spain. The hotel is great. So is the training ground.

- It’s summer in Uruguay. Was it difficult to get back to winter?

- It’s really hot in Uruguay. Almost every day I was having good time at the beach. Actually I spent only a few hours in Ukraine as I came on January 16 evening while in the morning we took off for Spain.
