Kyrylo Osypenko: «Emotions are good in football but they need to be put in the background»

The scorer of Dynamo U19’s goal against Karpaty U19 (1:1) Kyrylo Osypenko commented on the events of the National League match:

- It was quite an emotional game. Did you expect that?

- Of course. Karpaty are a fighting team, we always prepare for tough games against them and we always know they can put up a real fight.

- Is it frustrating to be leading and then drop points?

- We always play to win. It was a difficult match, we should have held on to our lead, scored another goal. But it turned out the way it did. We had worked on that specific set piece of theirs in theory but we missed something, someone didn’t run enough – and that’s it.

- In the second half, for a long time, your team didn’t really create chances. Karpaty equalized. What was missing in attack?

- Probably composure and focus in the final phase. That’s why we couldn’t score the second goal. But we should have scored again and secured the victory with a bigger margin.

- There were a lot of emotions today, many cards. How much do emotions interfere with constructive play?

- Football without emotions doesn’t exist. They only add motivation. But you always need to stay focused for 90 minutes and think only about the game. Emotions are good but they need to be put aside and you must stay concentrated until the very end.

- The UEFA Youth League is about to start. How ready is the team, both in rhythm and for the international stage?

- Step by step, with every training session, with every day we’re getting into rhythm. It won’t be easy but we’re working to get better. When you have the UEFA Youth League during the season, it’s only a positive – you can grow in such a tournament. Playing in Ukraine and for Ukraine in Europe is a big plus for us.

- There are many newcomers – from the Academy and from other clubs. How well have they settled in? Do they already understand Dynamo’s playing principles?

- Yes, of course, when they arrived, they didn’t understand everything right away. But today was already Matchday 7 and after seven games and all the training sessions you can already understand what the coaching staff wants, what the team wants. So everything is fine in that regard.
