FC Dynamo Kyiv faced FC Obolon Kyiv in 2023/2024 Ukrainian Cup round of 16.
The two sides have already faced each other in domestic league this season and Dynamo succeeded 4:2.
The Cup tie started quite intensely too. Dynamo mostly maintained possession, but home side responded with their attacks and created the first chance of the game. Kosovskyi attempted from outside the box, but the ball went wide. Benito responded with his strike, but Kychak parried.
Later Obolon keeper cleared the ball with a powerful volley and Sukhanov obtained it in the attacking half, but Brazhko didn’t let him shoot. Buialskyi created a good opportunity for Benito, but the latter sent the ball over the bar.
Halfway through the first half Obolon had a number of chances to open the score, but Neshcheret did a really good job. Our keeper parried the header from Krasnopir, coped with the header by Pryimak and then reached the ball after the strike by Krasnopir.
Benito wasted another decent opportunity after Buialskyi found him inside the penalty area. Then Buialskyi attempted with a header, but goalkeeper was there.
The situation didn’t change a lot after the break. Dynamo didn’t really have opportunities while Obolon turned one into goal. Kosovskyi dispossessed our player in the right side and passed to Sukhanov, who hit the target accurately – 1:0.
Despite that the White-Blues didn’t manage to apply real pressure right away although had several chances. Yarmolenko missed from a tight angle. So did Voloshyn after solo effort.
Dynamo could equalize in the 84th minute as they had two opportunities in a row. At first Kychak perfectly parried the strike by Buialskyi and then Yarmolenko unleashed a header after corner, but home side keeper saved again. In a few minutes Buialskyi took a free kick and hit the woodwork.
So, Dynamo suffer narrow defeat and tumble out of the Ukrainian Cup in the round of 16.
