On Wednesday, April 2, FC Dynamo Kyiv played the Ukrainian Cup quarterfinal – against FC Rukh Lviv away.
A few days ago the two sides faced each other in the UPL and the White-Blues succeeded 2:0. This time Dynamo gaffer made 10 substitutions in the starting lineup comparing with the previous game, including the debut of goalkeeper Valentyn Morhun.
Visitors had a great chance in the 3rd minute and Voloshyn appeared in a promising position, but sent the ball past the far post.
Brazhko missed a decent opportunity in the 37th minute as he obtained the ball in front of the box, but his shot lacked power. In a few minutes Kyivans were lucky as Kitela crossed to unmarked Klymchuk, who attempted with a header, but missed.
When it seemed the first half would be goalless, Dynamo opened the score. Guerrero passed to Pikhalionok, Oleksandr rushed forward, eluded the defender and hit the far corner – 0:1.
The second half started with more danger for home side. Voloshyn started a promising attack in the right wing, found Pikhalionok, who passed to Guerrero, but Eduardo sent the ball over the bar.
Anyway, after that Rukh seized the initiative and went forward boldly to equalize. The shot by Sliubyk was blocked by Diachuk. Then Dynamo were extremely lucky that Karabin missed the corner from close range.
Later debutant Morhun demonstrated his skill as he spectacularly parried the strike by Klymchuk from inside the penalty area.
Late in the game Rukh rushed forward and Morhun had some work to do again in the 89th minute – Karabin got the ball inside the box, eluded the defender and aimed on target, but our keeper managed to come with this shot. Way to go, Valentyn!
So, Dynamo succeed by narrow marking and reach the Ukrainian Cup semifinal. The drawing will take place on April 3. Kyiv side potential opponents are Bukovyna, Shakhtar and Polissia.
