On Tuesday, August 13, FC Dynamo Kyiv played the Champions League 3rd qualifying round second leg. The White-Blues faced Rangers FC in Glasgow.
As you know, the first leg ended in 1:1 draw while this time Kyivans succeeded 2:0. It should be noted that Rangers played outnumbered in the second half.
Scottish side started more actively, but around the 10th minute Dynamo had a decent counterattack. Kabayev crossed from the left side, but neither Yarmolenko nor Vanat reached the ball. Home side caused our team troubles from time to time. Jefte appeared in a promising position twice, but missed both times. Dessers attempted with a header – Bushchan grabbed the ball.
Meanwhile Kabayev performed another cross into the penalty area, but Yarmolenko didn’t reached it again. Then Dessers created a chance for McCausland and Bushchan had to save the team by reaching the ball in the far corner.
Early in the second half Rangers got outnumbered as Jefte got his second yellow and was sent off. Soon afterwards Karavayev avoided offside and rushed one-on-one, but missed.
Dynamo started creating more chances, but home side didn’t just defend either. Sometimes it was quite a mess in the White-Blues’ box, in particular when Popov blocked two strikes in one attack.
Eventually Ukrainians succeeded late in the game as they scored twice within two minutes. At first Karavayev passed to Pikhalionok, who mowed towards the center and hit the target from the box line – 0:1. Right afterwards Voloshyn played one-two with Shaparenko and scored from inside the penalty area – 0:2.
So, it’s 2:0 for Dynamo (3:1 on aggregate). In the next qualifying round our team will face the Austrian side RB Salzburg. The first leg will take place on August 21 in Lublin, Poland. Kick-off – 22:00 Kyiv time.
