On Wednesday, August 21, FC Dynamo Kyiv played the 2024/2025 Champions League qualification play-off round first leg. The White-Blues hosted the Austrian side RB Salzburg in Lublin.
Despite having quite a lot of scoring chances, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men lost this game – 0:2.
Salzburg were more active early in the game and maintained possession, but Kyivans faced them in their half and didn’t give much space. Then Dynamo had some promising attacks. Shaparenko created an opportunity for Yarmolenko, but Andrii didn’t shoot and lost the ball.
The White-Blues had another chance after mistake by der Brempt, but goalkeeper reached the ball ahead of Yarmolenko. Then Vanat could score from inside the box, but his shot was blocked.
Meanwhile visitors totally used their chance. Yeo eluded the defender, sent Nene one-on-One and the latter netted the ball – 0:1. Then Bushchan saved the team after the strike by Kjaergaard from distance. Karavayev attempted decently after pass from Yarmolenko, but hit the net from the wrong side, besides he was flagged offside.
The second half started with a trouble for Dynamo as referee awarded penalty for the foul by Karavayev. Kjaergaard converted from the spot – 0:2. Kyivans responded with a fast attack, but Yarmolenko missed when finishing. Then Vanat had an opportunity, but his shot was blocked by Piatkowski. Shaparenko attempted from the box line, but the keeper was there. On the other half, Bushchan saved after dangerous shot from close range.
Braharu almost pulled one back as he didn’t reach the ball just a little bit after great cross from Shaparenko.
Popov tried with a header after cross from the corner flag, but hit the post!
In a stoppage time Shaparenko attempted after pass from Voloshyn, but goalkeeper coped with that.
So, it’s 0:2 – Dynamo lose the first leg. The second one will take place on August 27 in Salzburg.
