On Tuesday, August 6, FC Dynamo Kyiv played the 2024/2025 Champions League 3rd qualifying round first leg. The White-Blues hosted the Scottish side Rangers FC at the Arena Lublin in Poland.
The game which was quite tough and intense for Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men ended in a draw – 1:1.
Visitors were more active early in the game and bothered Bushchan twice in the 2nd minute with strikes fro, the box line, but the keeper did well both times. Dynamo responded with a corner. Shaparenko crossed, Popov touched the ball slightly which reached Brazhko, but Volodymyr missed with a header.
Then Kyivans netted the ball after long attack, but the goal was disallowed as Vanat was flagged offside. Rangers responded dangerously as well – McCausland hit the post. Pikhalionok was close to success, but visitors’ keeper demonstrated great reaction and parried his shot.
Eventually Ukrainians had a fast wing attack, Karavayev found Vanat, Vladyslav crossed and Yarmolenko made it 1:0 from close range. Shaparenko attempted from distance right after that, but the ball went over the bar.
Our team continued maintaining possession in the second half, but then Jefte put a cross into the penalty area and Bushchan had to show unbelievable skip to parry the header from Dessers.
Meanwhile Shaparenko eluded Rangers defender in the box, approached the goalkeeper, but didn’t manage to pass to Yarmolenko. Afterwards visitors had a number of opportunities and Bushchan had to clear the ball a number of times.
Late in the game Dynamo mostly defended aiming to secure the win, but late in a stoppage time Dessers reacted to the cross from the right side and equalized.
So, it’s 1:1 – Dynamo let victory slip away. The second leg will take place on Tuesday, August 13, in Glasgow.
